The year is 2023, the month January, the rallying call is heard across the game making world. For my second GGJ I stood ready, Melo had served as a skill elevation platform when it came to C# and Unity. This year I wanted to challenge myself, as such I made the decision of going solo as a way to prove and quantify my progress.

The theme dropped: Roots; ideas began to flood in. In an effort to define a frame I looked at the different diversifiers available. At first I wanted to play around the hidden heritage diversifier but since it was not meant for my side of the english channel I switched up a little bit with a few others




​How about Familial roots? A 2D puzzle game in which you accomplish a few tasks before jumping to an other ancestors reflecting their lives and their hardships that cultimate in modern days. If needed I could remove an ancestor to gain time or remove tasks. The concept was scalable and achievable for a single person.

The result? Well the code is a quite chaotic, the animations are a little junky, but the game is thoroughy complete and bug free. I meant for more ancestors to be present (revolutionnary, medieval farmer...) to deepen the meaning of roots, but in the end I lacked the time.
